Alia Bhatt’s film Difficult Daughters has been chosen for the Asian Project Market (APM) at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). The APM is a platform where promising films from Asia are presented to international investors, distributors, and co-producers.
The film is directed by Soni Razdan, Alia Bhatt’s mother, and produced by Alia Bhatt, her sister Shaheen Bhatt, and independent filmmaker Alan McAlex, who is known for his work on the film Santosh. Being chosen for APM puts Difficult Daughters among 30 selected projects from across Asia, offering it a chance to gain international backing and recognition.
Difficult Daughters is not the only Indian project to feature at APM this year. The Last of Them Plagues, directed by Kunjila Mascillamani and produced by Kani Kusruti and Payal Kapadia, is also among the selected projects. In addition, Indian director Pradip Kurbah, who previously won the Jiseok Award at BIFF, returns with a new project titled Moon.
From Bangladesh, Biplob Sarkar brings The Magical Men, which focuses on LGBTQ+ themes. Malaysian filmmaker Lau Kok Rui, an alumnus of BIFF’s 2022 Asian Film Academy, will present Wake Me Up When the Mourning Ends, co-produced by Soi Cheang and others.
She had recently appeared in her latest movie, 'Jigra'. This movie was directed by Vasan Bala. This movie is all about a sister trying to protect her brother. She will next be seen in Alpha, part of Yash Raj Films’ spy universe, releasing on December 25. She is also working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, co-starring her husband Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
The Asian Project Market will be held from September 20 to 23 at BEXCO in Busan, during the 20th Asian Contents & Film Market.
